What is hack the nu

NUVO Network is hosting our first hackathon, Hack The NU, in partnership with the United Way of Halton and Hamilton (UWHH), whose mission is to improve lives, build community and ignite action in our local communities.

Our goal is to foster creativity, innovation and solutions-based thinking while helping to build the next generation of volunteers and philanthropists. We will provide participants with a fun and productive learning environment so they can revel in their abilities and tackle real world problems.

About United Way Halton & Hamilton & 211 Ontario

Last year, UWHH supported 129 community-based programs through 65 funded agencies, helping 202,421 people and involving 14,751 volunteers. These programs are helping alleviate local issues like poverty, homelessness, senior isolation, mental health, hunger and more.

211 Ontario partners with United Way to provide a telephone helpline and website that provides information on and referrals to over 60,000 of Ontario’s community, social, health-related and government services. 211 is answered 24 hours a day, every day and provides an interpreter in over 150 languages.

More information on Hack the NU
What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a creative problem solving event in which designers, researchers, programmers and other innovators come together to collaborate and intensively produce a concept solution to a proposed problem.

What activities will there be at Hack the NU?

There will be personal/professional development workshops, opportunities to meet new people, interact with sponsors, build on your skills, and join in on fun activities throughout the weekend. Hack the NU is much more than a hackathon—it’s a place for you to learn from and connect with industry leaders, innovators, and your peers, all while learning more about charities and local services and the vital roles they play in the betterment of our communities.

Who can Participate?

Hack The NU will be a weekend event over 24 hours in duration and will host up to 100 participants from Halton and Hamilton. The emphasis is on students and young professionals to be part of the Hackathon experience. The hackathon is a partnership project with United Way of Halton and Hamilton (UWHH), and as such, is intended to help build the next generation of innovators, volunteers and philanthropists.  Participants will build their skills while working on a problem. They will participate in a pitch contest and present their solutions to a panel of judges. They will also learn about the value of sharing their time, treasure and talents with charitable organizations, like UWHH. If this is of interest to you, here is the sign-up form for participants.
