HACK The NU is back!

Building on last year’s successful event and hosted by NUVO Network, we invite students, designers, mentors, interns, sponsors, entrepreneurs, and innovators everywhere to join us at HACK The NU on October 3-4.

What is hack the nu

HACK The NU is a 36 hour weekend event that brings creative minds from various backgrounds together to solve a common problem. This year's theme will focus on entrepreneurship, technology and leadership. Participants will work in teams to create solutions to problems that our local business partners are experiencing or looking to solve.

Our goal is to foster creativity, innovation and solutions-based thinking while helping to build the next generation of entrepreneurs. We will provide participants with a fun and productive learning environment so they can revel in their abilities and tackle real world problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

More information on Hack the NU
What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a creative problem solving event in which designers, researchers, programmers and other innovators come together to collaborate and intensively produce a concept solution to a proposed problem.

What activities will there be at HACK The NU?

There will be personal and professional development workshops, opportunities to meet new people, interact with sponsors, build on your skills, and join in on fun activities throughout the weekend. HACK The NU is much more than a hackathon—it’s a place for you to learn from and connect with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and your peers, all while learning more about how businesses are innovating to address current societal challenges for the betterment of our communities.

Who can Participate?

HACK The NU will host participants from around the GTA and is geared to students and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 29. The hackathon is a partnership project with local businesses, and as such, is intended to help build the next generation of entrepreneurs. Participants will build their skills while working on a problem. They will participate in a pitch contest and present their solutions to a panel of judges. They will also learn about the value of sharing their time, treasure and talents with their peers, potential future employers and community members. If this is of interest to you, here is the sign-up for participants.

Not 18-29? We still want you to get involved. There are lots of opportunities for interns and mentors of all ages to participate: click here

Can I become an intern or mentor?

Absolutely! Intern and mentorship positions are available to anyone above the age of 18. If you are interested in applying click here

Can I work on my hack before the hackathon?

The panel will release the hack problem one week prior to the event, however nothing can be created before the 36 hour work period.

What should I bring?

Bring a sleeping bag, laptop, charger and whatever else you may need for the weekend that you’ll be spending with us. NUVO Network will be providing food and refreshments, but you may wish to bring some snacks too.
